The Mafé Ensemble is an artist collective blending traditional West African rhythms with a fresh West Coast vibe. Born in the historic Leimert Park neighborhood, the group creates a living dialogue between ancient traditions and the vibrant, ever evolving sounds of LA.

Their music is a diasporic fusion, grounded in deep cultural roots, alive with contemporary energy, and built for connection. Every performance carries an electric spirit of community and joy, whether on a festival stage or in a neighborhood classroom.

The ensemble's credits speak to both their artistry and reach. Opening the LA City Council Juneteenth Celebration to the 2026 Oscars, where founding members joined the acclaimed "I Lied to You" performance from the film Sinners.

Beyond the spotlight, Mafé is equally committed to education. Classes, workshops, and interactive experiences bring music and culture to communities of all ages. Mafé members also serve as guest artists at public and private schools, using percussion and rhythm to support social and emotional learning.

Saliou M'Boup

Saliou M'Boup

Saliou M'Boup moves fluidly across musical worlds and instruments, specializing in West African drumming and teaching. Raised in Venice Beach, he carries forward a powerful family legacy. His father is a Senegalese griot and master drummer who served as musical director for Ballet Bougarabou. Saliou brings deep roots and authentic tradition to every performance.

Since 2022, Saliou has been partnering with STAR Education throughout LAUSD, creating curriculum and teaching West African drum classes for K–12. With a focus on early childhood development, he also teaches their 16 week RockSTAR Band sessions, guiding students toward live performances at iconic venues like The Mint and The Troubadour.

Shannon Tobin

Shannon Tobin

Shannon Tobin is a multi-instrumentalist whose jazz roots and genre spanning range make him a cornerstone of The Mafé Ensemble. Whether he is drumming, laying down bass lines or pulling from entirely different traditions, his presence shapes both stages and community spaces.

His credits include the US National Tour with Red Elvises (2023–2025), where he played bass and balalaika. He is currently completing his Music Industry Studies degree at CSUN, bridging performance and professional artistry.

Haki Saliim Mooney

Haki Saliim Mooney

Haki Saliim Mooney is a Los Angeles native steeped in West African drumming, percussion and dance. A poet and internet comedian, he is known for his unique fusion of humor, musical dialectic, and artistic expression.

Adama Diouf

Adama Diouf

Born into N'Guewel Senegalese lineage, Adama Diouf was raised in West African traditions. From age ten, he began drumming in performances and healing ceremonies. Today, he brings that energy, power and rich heritage to every show and teaching experience.

Sebastian Sebi Feo

Sebastian "Sebi" Feo

Sebastian "Sebi" Feo connects traditional rhythms with contemporary drumming and percussion through his own distinct musical style. He is a producer, event coordinator, and the owner of Island Time Productions.

Hamun, the Human

Hamun is a sound alchemist and cultural diplomat raised in Tehran, now showcasing the beauty of Iran to people of all backgrounds. Through his collective project Sounds of Unity he explores the fusion and connection of our ancestry.
